10 Ways To Prepare You Home For Winter

2 minute read

As we creep ever closer to winter, we’re going to need to find ways to make sure we’re saving money, keeping our homes heated and keeping ourselves warm. Below, we have some great tips on steps you can take before we head into the colder months.

Loft - Make sure your loft is properly insulated, you don’t want to lose all of your heat through the roof. Try thermal imagining to test this.

Stopcock - It’s always handy to know where your main stopcock is, this will help if you suffer a burst pipe from them freezing over.

Radiators - Bleed the radiators, when they’re clogged, they’re not going to properly heat and your house will stay cold.

Heating - Test your heating ahead of time. There’s a good chance it’s not been used in a while since we’re coming out of summer.

Guttering - Clear out your guttering! We’re always going to get a lot of rain in winter, sometimes even snow, so make sure you’re ready!

Insurance - It’s important to make sure you’re insured in case of a leak from a frozen and burst pipe.

Garden - Make sure your garden furniture is ready. Take away any items made for summer and ensure they’re not going to fly away in the wind.

Chimney - Get your chimney professionally cleaned and swept before heading into the winter months and using your fireplace!

Fireplace - If you don’t have a built-in fireplace, try getting an electric one. They look fantastic and do the job just as well!

Locks - Make sure you’re ready in case your locks freeze over. As we drop into freezing temperatures overnight, you’re likely to wake up to a frozen door lock.

That’s it, they’re all of our tips! Now you can go into winter knowing you’ve done everything possible!
