10 Low Maintenance Gardening Tips

3 minute read

If you’re a keen gardener then listen up! We have some great tips you’ll be able to implement into your everyday gardening routine, without creating more effort for yourself! Head off to your shed, grab your tools and get ready to do some gardening!

Soil - It’s important you look after the soil in your garden or greenhouse. Make sure there is plenty of organic matter or compost dug into your soil. If you get your soil right it will help to minimise the amount of work that you have to do.

Plants - If you’re wanting an easy gardening life, make sure you’re choosing plants that require little assistance. Cacti are a great plant since they just need plenty of water once a week.

Weeding - If you do see a weed make sure you pull it as soon as it appears. Don’t allow it to go to seed in your garden. This will minimise your workload in the long run.

Mulch - Place a thick layer of mulch over the soil. What is mulch? It can be ground bark, leaves, newspaper or gravel. You can use anything that covers the soil really to stop the weeds from taking hold.

Lawn - If you’re looking to go the extra mile, ditch the lawn. Try replacing it with either fake turf, or replace some of it with concrete paving. Here you could place a shed or log cabin!

Grass - Let the grass grow, not only is it good for the grass to grow long, but it’s also going to give you less work.

Pots - Choose larger pots rather than smaller ones, you’ll have more space to work with and your garden will still look great.

Timing - It’s key to plant the right crops and plants at the right time of year, this will minimise your work efforts.

Embrace - Try to relax a bit with your garden, it’s great to let nature take hold sometimes and watch how it works. Just don’t let it get out of hand!

Edging - Try lawn edging, this will leave you with less grass to cut and a clear border for when you do mow the lawn!

They’re all of our tips, now all that’s left is to take care of a healthy garden and give yourself a break!
