A variety of smells at home is inevitable, this could be from cooking on your BBQ or the kitchen you’ve not yet cleaned from the night before. Below, are 10 ways to keep bad smells out of your home.

 

Clear out your fridge - This is a great way to get started, subtle changes make you feel more accomplished and every time you open your fridge after this, you’ll feel loads more organised.

 

Empty the bins - Again, a subtle step but this is the easiest way to keep bad smells at bay, doing this regularly can make a massive difference.

 

Clean your dishwasher - Your dishwasher can often be neglected, when do we ever think about deep cleaning a machine that cleans?! 

 

Clean your microwave - Boil ¼ of water with a lemon slice and heat it up in the microwave for less than a minute. Your microwave can often be the epicentre of bad smells since it’s used for various different purposes in cooking.

 

Plastic cutting boards - Put your plastic cutting boards in the dishwasher. These should be cleaned regularly after each use, this will help to keep any bad smells from bacteria away.

 

Wooden cutting boards - For wooden cutting boards, scrub them with half a lemon dipped in salt, this will get rid of any bad odours.

 

Bathroom - Doing a deep clean of your bathroom will help to massively reduce any bad smells that may hang around.

 

Mattress -  After a few months, your mattress can acquire bad smells from not being cleaned. Put baking soda on it and let it sit, then hoover it up after about 30 minutes to an hour.

 

Wardrobe - This is often overlooked, open the doors regularly to stop trapped moisture.      

 

Carpets - Sprinkle in baking soda and hoover after an hour, this is a great way to deep clean your carpet.
