10 BBQ Safety Tips

2 minute read

BBQ safety is important, no matter if you’re experienced with them or not. We have 10 great tips on keeping your BBQ safe this year, plus we have some great new BBQs on offer for you all too!

Condition: Check your barbecue is in good repair, especially if you haven’t used it in a while. Ensure that any damaged or loose parts are repaired.

Quality: If you’re buying a new barbecue, get the most expensive model you can afford, ensuring it is sturdy and made to a high quality. A more expensive barbecue may also have additional safety features.

Position: Your BBQ should be away from hanging branches which could catch fire, and on stable, level ground so that it doesn’t fall over. Never light a barbecue in an enclosed space, or near anything which may catch alight.

Safety: It may be tempting to pour flammable liquid on the coals if your BBQ is staying lit, never do this. This can cause the barbecue to explode, causing serious burns to those standing near it.

Tools: Always use tools to handle meat on the barbecue, and make sure they are long-handled. This will reduce the risk of burning hands and fingers. Don’t forget those gloves too!

Steam: Take care when opening foil parcels which contain food, as there may be steam inside. Steam can reach very high temperatures and scald hands.

Emergencies: It’s a good idea to keep a bucket of water nearby for use in emergencies.

Kids: It goes without saying; never leave children unattended near a barbecue.

Leaving the BBQ: Always make sure a barbecue is fully extinguished before you leave it and never put any hot ashes or coal in the bin. This is a fire risk.

That’s all we have on BBQ safety, now all you have to do is enjoy the summer sun with your family and friends.
