The BC490 is one of the most powerful petrol brushcutter/strimmer available on the market at present. With its 2-stroke 49cc engine it really does make light work of usually tough jobs. The strimmer is not only extremely versatile, but very easy to operate and maintain and puts a lot of its more expensive rivals to shame with its incredible ability for such a low price. With its twin line and 3 toothed cutting blade, the Trueshopping 49cc Petrol Strimmer is ideal for professional clean-up jobs, including clearing out tough weeds and bushes over a large surface area. In addition, the Trueshopping Petrol Brushcutter has a very high power to weight ratio and easily starts in all weathers. It also boasts maximum efficiency, high torque and rapid acceleration. The machine features an ergonomic harness, which spreads the load, improving comfort and efficiency for the user, and a bike-style handlebar that is angled relative to the shaft, to prevent an uneven load being placed on the user's back. Please see our add-ons for this strimmer as you may want to add some useful attachments to your order.

a good buy for the money by Peter Radburn
the self-assembly was no problem using the tools provided. once running, it clears a very unkempt lawn (12 inch high grass). My only problem is getting it started, since I am obviously not an intuitive 2-stroke user, and I mess about for ages trying all sorts of choke settings. But if you have that cracked, in use the machine is a brute on your lawn.

complaint by bob 42
I have only used this item 3 times due to ill health and the third time was very recent and when i started using it, it started to smoke very dangerously, so i went through all the troubleshooting checking the mix of the petrol and the rest of the procedures but it was still smoking dangerously,i am very annoyed that i have only had use for a limited time after paying so much you would exspect it to last more than 3 uses. Very annoyed Mrs C Bevan.

does what it says on the tin by ged
Took a little time to build and must admit the instructions are not to clear, could do with being better but once built filled with petrol started 3rd pull and has been used few times now normally starts 1st or 2nd pull cuts well bit difficult refilling spool but maybe there is a simpler way and I'm not doing it correctly but otherwise excellent buy solid workhorse my garden is about 1/3 acre so it has done some work and still going strong.

Good machine, good price, assembly booklet terrible by anonymous
Very good machine for the price and very powerful. Instruction booklet very vague (and need overhauled) and a nightmare to follow. Assembly was tough. I wouldn't buy this tool unless someone mechanically minded was available to help put it together.

Good product - rubbish manual by anonymous
Incomprehensible manual, English must have come from a software translation package - illustrations no use whatsoever; fortunately I have some experience with assembling machinery so got it set up eventually. Product is excellent.

Grass Trimmer by edgewood48
Trimmer works well. Appears good quality. However, the instructions on assembly appear to be written in Vulcan. Terrible explanations and spelling mistakes. Got me very worried during the hours it took me to work it all out.In summery, a good product devalued by the awful assembly instructions.

Great piece of kit! by CaroleS
Inexpensive, but really useful piece of equipment. The brush cutter does not run as fast as my old strimmer/brushcutter, but for the price, it's well worth he money.

GREAT VALUE FOR A ROBUST MACHINE by DAVE C
THE ASSEMBLY WAS NOT TOO DIFFICULT AND FOUND IT INTERESTING AS THE STRIMMER TOOK SHAPE. THE MANUAL WAS A LITTLE INCORRECT IN PARTS, FOR EXAMPLE IT WOULD SAY TURN CLOCKWISE WHEN IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN ANTICLOCKWISE BUT IT WAS A MINOR THING. IT IS A VERY ROBUST MACHINE. PUT 25.1 MIX IN TANK AND IT STARTED AFTER THIRD PULL. NOT SURE YET HOW LONG TO KEEP IT ON 25.1 MIX AS BOOKLET SAYS 40.1 HAVE USED IT AND IT CUTS THROUGH LONG GRASS AND WEEDS AS IF THEY WERE NOT THERE. HAD TO ADJUST TICKOVER SCREW AS INSTRUCTED AFTER ABOUT HALF AN HOUR AS MOTOR STARTED TO RUN A LITTLE FAST AS IT BEGAN TO RUN IN. ONE LITTLE TIP IS TO GET THE SHOULDER STRAP ADJUSTED TO FIT YOURSELF SO AS TO BALANCE THE STRIMMER AND IT ALMOST FLOATS JUST ABOVE THE GROUND WITH VERY LITTLE EFFORT AND AM SURE THAT IN TIME WILL HELP REDUCE FATIGE. I AM VERY PLEASED WITH THIS PRODUCT AND IT HAS BEEN BETTER THAN I EXPECTED FOR THE MONEY.

Instructions are hard to follow by IKR
Just spent a frustrating evening putting this tool together. Pictures in manual are poorly reproduced so it is hard to see what is going on (choke control is invisible in pictures and on machine - if you have to work this one out for yourself). Rather laughably there are no instructions as to how to attached the engine to the shaft! The pictures on replacing the strimmer line refer to yellow and green arrows but as the pictures are in black and white so these make no sense at all. Once I got it working however the strimmer worked fine and is quicker and more effective than my old electric strimmer. Have not used the brush cutter yet but it looks the business. Overall happy with the purchase. The throttle control is the only part that looks or feels cheap.

Not useful at the moment by Eileen
Cannot give a true review yet as we are having problems getting it started. Both myself and my husband have made numerous attempts at ignition and have followed the manual instructions to the letter 't' as far as we know. As yet we are awaiting a call from a technician to hopefully help us out, which won't be until next week. Apart from that, it seems a sturdy tool.

Petrol Grass Strimmer Brush Cutter 49cc 1.5KW / by anonymous
Delivered in two days, looks like its American made since it refers to petrol as Gasoline. I was informed by the hire shop who deal with strimmers when i went to purchase the oil to keep the mixing bottle safe, since in this country the mix is normally 50:1 and 25:1 was a strange mix and that it might be a problem when mixing small amounts. Not to impressed with the black handles or the guard - all looks and feels very very cheap, compared to the strimmers i hired from the hire shops, which were comfortable and felt strong and sturdy. The mixing bottle also feels cheap and will not last very long, and also looks like you will have to mix the bottle a couple of times to fill the strimmer tank (a bit of a pain). The instructions were not very clear re the fixing of the guard. the diagrams were blurry. That's what you get from manuals which have been copied time after time. The winding of the strimmer wire instructions were also very confusing. The proof will be in the cutting, will keep you posted how i got on. PS Does anybody know if 50:1 mixture can be used - i would think not since it could be to rich.
